Can TinyTap be used for learning sentence structure? Yes, there are so many ways and they can be sequenced such as to scaffold the learning. That was my ambitious attempt in my latest creation.

First, using the Shape Puzzle feature, the player gets to put the phrases in order. Then, through a Sound Board, they can understand what each phrase means.

Next, they get to speak aloud the phrases using the Type or Talk feature (At this point, this requires an internet connected iPad to play with this feature. It is well worth it when you see the “magic”.).

Finally, the player would have to type out the sentence using either the Pinyin or Handwrite Chinese input keyboard.

If used in class, the suggestion is for students to create a similar game with pictures (either photo or drawing) and a sentence expressing their ambition.

Tell me what you think of this new game.

Two side notes for fellow creators:

  1. When creating Chinese Type features, for the answer, we need to put in an alternative answer with a gibberish word in the same length as the number of letters in the hanyupinyin of the answer.
  2. The illustrations were created on the iPad using the Inkpad app and I was trying to give it a mid-century feel. Perhaps not so successfully.
