Capacity and preference.
We can all be creative but not all of us exercise our creativity all the time. The ability to form and see new connections is in all of us, some do so frequently and it seems natural while others appear to require greater effort to do so. Interestingly, the less we do so, the harder and unnatural it would seem to be creative.
Life presents situations which require creative responses. When we are younger, we are constantly learning and dealing with new situations and so we use our creativity more. As we grow older and life becomes more of a predictable routine, it then becomes mostly a choice to remain curious, not risk-averse and ready to be creative, and so we show our preference.
My guess is that our preference is the result of a combination of genetic disposition and life experiences.
IMHO is a series of short pieces consolidating some of my thoughts at the moment. This is part of a series about creativity sparked off by my work on the TIM-BUG-tool. Please do reach out to me to find out more about my creativity workshop.
