Super Digital Citizen

I enjoyed watching this video clip from the Teaching Channel in which Sam Pane gets his class to learn about being safe, respectful and responsible online. I particularly appreciates how he was able to engage his class and create a sense of ownership and engagement.

There is a good use of cooperative learning strategies including the use of gallery walk. Following the group discussion about situations that shows inappropriate behaviour online, the students were tasked to work out the solutions through creating a superhero comic strip. As they go through the processes of application, evaluation and creation, I am quite certain that this has led to deep learning.

To adapt a similar approach for this or other content while using the iPad, we could consider the following apps:

Superhero Creator

Make Me a Superhero Lite (FREE)

Comic Book

Comic Life

Storyboards (FREE)

Well, the power is in our hands as teachers to make our students super-learners. Up, up and away!
